Abstract

In this paper, a non-binary version of the Soft-Input Hard-Output Threshold Decoder (TD) is proposed. Threshold decoding was initially devised by Massey for the binary case. This work is the continuity of our previous work, where we presented the Majority Logic Decoding (MLGD) algorithm for non-binary codes. Like the (MLGD), the proposed decoder has low complexity, but it is more suited for OSMLD codes with a large orthogonal structure in their dual codes, such as finite geometry codes. The performances of our decoder are shown in terms of bit, symbol, and block error rates. The obtained results are very encouraging. The obtained results of the TD show an amelioration compared to the MLGD, due to the use of the information received from the channel. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
