Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the ability of the wind energy conversion system (WECS) equipped with doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) to participate in the microgrid frequency regulation when there is an imbalance of power. In order to contribute in the system frequency stability, the WECS have to inject an additional active power support into the power system. To do that, an additional frequency regulation control methods have been adopted to change the reference value of the electromagnetic power of the DFIG. These control strategies are the synthetic inertia control and the droop control. Furthermore, an additional technic called automatic generation control (AGC) has been used for adjusting the power output of multiple generators in the microgrid in response to changes in the load. The role of the AGC is to restore frequency to its nominal value by using a supplementary integral controller. Moreover, the control of the wind turbine generator is necessary so that it can provide the requested power. We used the Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) method and in order to assess its performance, the ADRC strategy was compared to the classic PI controller. Modeling and simulation are carried out in MATLAB/Simulink environment. © 2021 IEEE.
